What is Monacoin
Monacoin (Symbol: MONA) is a community-type domestically produced cryptocurrency originating from the giant on-line bulletin board group, 2 Channel (now 5 Chan). Its origin was inspired by the overseas originating Dogecoin, and it began with the slogan on 2 Channel, “We will also make cryptocurrency.” Dogecoin uses a character of a shiba inu dog, while Monacoin uses an image of the cat character “Mona.”
Mona is a character that was once used in ASCII Art (AA) on 2 Channel. In 2 Channel, AAs such as cat “kitty” and bear “Kuma” have also appeared besides Mona.
Monacoin officially launched on January 1st, 2014, and at the beginning it was used as a prize for ‘Okiri’ as a storied coin or used for receiving bargains. Monacoin, originating from such storied reticence, is currently ranked 85th on Coinmarketcap as of January 8th, 2019.
